A representative from the Department of Homeland Security stated on Monday that the agency is contemplating the possibility of arresting Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass following her appearance and attempts to obstruct Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers who were executing raids in the city this week.
She further stated: “They profit from the sex trafficking of young women. They have operated with impunity on the streets of America for four years, but under President Trump, that will no longer be tolerated.”
In the meantime, Republicans are attributing the increase in violence aimed at immigration enforcement agents and Border Patrol to the actions and rhetoric of Democrats.
“We are vigilantly observing the assaults on DHS detention facilities in Prairieland, TX, and Portland, OR, and are collaborating with the USAOs and our law enforcement partners,” Deputy Attorney General Todd Blance stated on Saturday via the social media platform X.
“The Department maintains a zero tolerance policy for attacks on federal officers or property and will apply the full force of the law against those accountable,” he further remarked.
This warning came in the wake of distinct incidents at Department of Homeland Security facilities in Prairieland, Texas, close to Dallas, and in Portland, Oregon. Additionally, it was issued prior to what officials described as a planned “ambush” targeting a Border Patrol facility, also located in Texas, on Monday.
When officers attempted to approach the suspects, they were fired upon, with one bullet hitting an officer in the neck, according to police reports. The injured officer was airlifted to a hospital in Fort Worth, treated, and subsequently released, as confirmed by the Alvarado Police Department.
The suspects tried to escape, but several armed individuals were captured with the help of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and other law enforcement agencies.
On Saturday, Trump commended ICE officers for their daily efforts in “reclaiming our Sovereignty and Freedom,” highlighting their importance in his strategy for the largest mass deportation initiative in U.S. history.
He emphasized his signature immigration proposal, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, as essential for providing ICE with billions more in funding to execute its immigration enforcement responsibilities.
